Treating Your Hip Pain

Hip problems have become very common and can be caused by many different reasons. About 15% of elderly people report that they have hip pain. Although it is more common in people 65 and older, it can still occur in anyone.

The hip is made up of two major parts known as the hip socket (acetabulum) and the thighbone (femur). A pillow of cartilage helps limit friction as the hip bone moves when using the hip. Although the hip bone is quite strong, with time and usage, the cartilage can become damaged, which generates hip pain. Your hip is responsible for daily activities such as walking, climbing stairs, sitting and running so hip pain can really limit your day-to-day routine. This pain can sometimes be very unbearable so making sure you get treatment from a physical therapist is very important. Our extremely professional physical therapists are highly trained and experienced. Contact our physical therapists today.

Causes of Hip Pain

  • Cancer
    • Bone cancer
    • Leukemia

How Physical Therapy in Hicksville Can Help Your Hip Pain

At All-Star Physical Therapy in Hicksville, we have years of experience in dealing with hip pain. We will show you special techniques and exercises that will help to alleviate the pain that is bothering you, as well as strengthen your hip joint and surrounding muscles to ensure future injury prevention. See below for 3 exercises to help hip pain:

1. Hip Bridges

    • This exercise is one of the most simple to perform.  You must begin by laying on your back, then bring your feet closer to your body.  Push your hips up, while squeezing your glutes and hold for a few seconds, release tension and lower your hips back down to the floor, repeat several times.

2. Air Squats

    • This exercise requires no extra weight to reap the benefits.  Start by standing straight up, eyes forward, feet shoulder-width apart.  Bend down, keeping your heels flat on the ground. You know that you have squatted deep enough when your hips are parallel to your knees, and it feels as if you could be sitting in a chair if it were placed under you. Make sure your back is straight, shoulders are pinched, and you are looking forward and not down at the ground.  Exhale as you push back up to a forward position. Repeat several times.

3. Hip Stretches

    • These stretches should be performed before and after strenuous activity to make sure you are warming up your muscles and making sure you are preventing any type of injury from occurring.  Examples of stretches you can do are the child’s pose and the twist. These stretches are very effective in ensuring that you will be prepared for any physical activity you are about to undergo.

All-Star Physical Therapy in Hicksville

Seeing a physical therapist can help control the pain and improve your mobility. With hip pain, it is hard to walk around normally and do your daily activities. Our whole staff is ready to accommodate you!

PHYSICAL THERAPY FOR THE ELBOW

If you have suffered an injury to your elbow and are searching for physical therapy in Hicksville, our experienced team at All-Star Physical Therapy is here to help you.

Identifying the Elbow JointPhysical Therapy in Hicksville

Most elbow injuries are due to overuse or stress of the elbow joint. Elbow pain is any pain that comes from the joints or structures adjacent to the joint such as the shoulder, upper arm, and wrist/hand joints. Your elbow is formed where three bones meet, the humerus (upper arm bone), the ulna, and the radius (both are bones that make up the forearm). Each bone has cartilage at the end of it used as a cushion. When the cushion is worn out it can cause pain in the elbow.

The pain can be anywhere from mild discomfort to a sharp sensation. Around 20-50% of tennis players reported having elbow pain, but it is just as common for anyone to have this pain. In most cases (around 75%) the pain is in the dominant arm, so it is very important to visit All-Star Physical Therapy in Hicksville so that you have no restrictions.

Causes of Elbow Pain:

5 BENEFITS OF STRETCHING

Stretching beforephysical therapy in Hicksville and after working out is one of the best things you can do for your body. Stretching improves your flexibility and helps keep your muscles strong and healthy. By keeping your muscles flexible, stretching also helps to maintain and increase the range of motion in your joints. Without stretching, you’re at higher risk of joint injuries, pain, muscle damage, and strains. Stretching once is not going to make you more flexible suddenly. You have to stretch consistently over time to increase your flexibility. You can stretch at home but must do it properly to prevent injuries. If you’re looking to learn a routine to stretch properly or get help through an injury, a physical therapist at All-Star Physical Therapy in Hicksville can help you.

5 BENEFITS OF STRETCHING

  • Decrease your risk of injury
    • By increasing your flexibility through stretching, you also decrease your risk of injury.
  • Increase your flexibility and range of motion
    • Stretching regularly increases your flexibility. Increasing your flexibility allows your joints to move through their full range of motion, which helps you move more easily.
  • Improve your performance in physical activities
    • By stretching before working out or performing any physical activity, you prepare your body and muscle for the activity, which can help improve your performance.
  • Increase the blood flow to your muscles
    • Stretching regularly can improve your circulation, improving the blood flow to your muscles. This increased blood flow can help your recover quicker and reduce soreness.
  • Decrease stress
    • Tense muscles can cause stress. Stretching, especially in areas where your body tends to hold stress, such as the neck, shoulder, and back, can help decrease stress levels.
