Possible Causes of Hip Pain

Causes of hip pain can vary from person to person depending on their age, gender, and level of activity.  If you are an athlete, your chances of enduring a hip injury are more likely.  Read below for possible causes to your hip pain:

  • Arthritis (both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis cause pain in the hip)physical therapy in Bellmore
  • Bursitis
  • Muscle strain
  • Piriformis syndrome
  • Tendinitis
  • Hip labral tear
  • Hip fracture
  • Avascular necrosis / osteonecrosis
  • Lyme disease
  • Lupus
  • Sciatica

How Can Physical Therapy in Bellmore Help?

Physical therapy treatment for the hip often consists of manual therapy and strengthening exercises to open and stabilize the hips. Our goal is to improve range of motion and eventually help you return you to optimal functioning.

Specific exercises will be prescribed to build support for the hip joints, commonly targeting the outer and inner thighs, glutes, and lower back muscles. Resistance training may be incorporated.

Building strength is important in treatment, but so is building your flexibility. If you’ve never stretched out your hips, chances are they are pretty tight, especially if you spend long periods sitting down.

  • Soft tissue manipulation

Your physical therapist will manually push and knead your muscles, ligaments, tendons, and nerves. This is useful for releasing tension and improving mobility.

  • Instrument assisted mobilization

Incorporating physical therapy instruments into your treatment provides a great boost to your recovery. This type of therapy can be greatly beneficial for breaking up scar tissue or adhesions around the muscles, which frequently cause pain and limit mobility.

Treatments are paired with exercises to get your body back to normal on its own. The role of a physical therapist is to provide care to individuals suffering from irregular functions in settings such as hospitals, nursing homes, private practices, and fitness facilities. They diagnose dysfunctions in their patients and work with them to provide the treatments that are in the patient’s best interest. Their goal is to promote physical health and overall wellness in ways that are specific to a person.
